Without a doubt one of the most exciting, innovative electronic music producers and live artist’ gripping the underground electronic music circuit the moment, Jlin cannot be defined by music genre or how danceable her productions are. The raw energy from her live set on the SonarLab stage at Sónar by Night on Friday this year was mind blowing. An injection of sonic soundscapes lifted a room full of Sónar’s more perceptive minds.
Ah, the 1980s. Whether you were born in the 80s, grew up in the 80s, or never set foot in that infamous decade, hearing the term “1980s” probably makes you think of something iconic. Known as the time for big hair, acid wash jeans, and ruthless ambition, the music was the most influential of that classic decade.
June in Barcelona not only means the start of those sweaty sleepless summer nights, but also Sonar Festival is upon us. With Sonar in its 24th year and most highly attended to date, a record number of 124,000 festival-goers descended on the city for one of the most respected worldwide music festivals in electronic and advanced music
This year Barcelona City FM presenters D.N.S & Tottie were there from start to finish reporting on a topic very close to their hearts; bridging the gender gap in electronic music and tech culture and talking exclusively to female artists performing at Sonar Festival 2017 – #WomenInSonar2017.
Dutch singer/songwriter Sofie Winterson pulled out a beautiful performance on the Red Bull Music Academy presents Sonar Dome stage on Friday. Tottie caught up with Sofie after her performance to talk about her personal journey as a woman working in the electronic music industry, how she gets into her creative groove and which female artist she would like to collaborate with next.
Sofie comments: “I Loved playing Sonar. Even though most of our equipment was lost in our transit and we had to switch to rented gear which was quite stressful, we felt the performance went really well and the crowds were lovely. Barcelona is a magic place and I hope to be back for Sonar in the future.”
Over the next few weeks D.N.S and Tottie will be releasing all the interviews on the Barcelona City FM Facebook page and YouTube channel featuring some of the fantastic female artists who performed at Sonar Festival and Sonar+D this year.

To break it down we’ll be hosting an all star line-up in association with ArtSpace Barcelona to get the head nodding and shoes shuffling, taking you from the urban sounds of 90’s Hip-Hop and upwards to the boogy-licious sounds of Disco, House and Techno.
Leading the charge for the night will be Track Family who invite Columian born, Barcelona based music producer and Albeton wizz, Blanali Bacm onto the show.
Taking the reins from there will be Barcelona-based Dj/producer Phillipino (Raw Format/UK) who comes from a musical background of turntablism, breakbeats and all things sample based but is now often found spinning house music of a similar ilk having gone on a search for more lively, dance inspiring records.
Bringing the full live element to the event, LDN/BCN based electro/soul due Ink Project are back in Barcelona.
